Safeport NDE Rope Access ServicesSafeport™ NDE Rope Access Services

ABS Consulting has teamed with CAN USA to provide technical support and nondestructive examination of shore-based quayside, rubber tyred and mobile container handling cranes for the port and maritime industry. The team drew upon the expertise and best practices that each company could offer to the client— ABS Consulting with its in-depth knowledge of container handling crane design, construction and operation along with CAN USA’s utilization of industrial rope access technology to place highly-skilled technicians in remote or difficult to access areas. Industrial rope access offers a cost-effective alternative to traditional means of access, such as using mobile cranes, man-baskets, personnel carriers, staging, scaffolding, etc., that may impact or interfere with a port’s operations and may increase the risk of potential hazard to employees.

In addition to reducing the overall cost as compared to traditional methods of access and testing, the use of eddy current testing (ET) eliminates the need to remove coatings and the necessity for containment in order to protect personnel and the environment. While at the same time, ET is capable of producing results that confirm the current condition of the equipment. In addition to these benefits of adopting such an approach to access and testing, the savings realized by a port or marine terminal may be used for equally important activities, such as modernization of facilities and infrastructure, enhancements in security, and upgrades to equipment and training of personnel. The ABS Consulting - CAN USA team is ready to provide this innovation and assist the port or marine terminal in its evaluation of equipment to minimize the risk of catastrophic consequences.
