to link with FABIG.
ABS
Consulting in Houston, USA and The Steel Construction
Institute in Ascot, UK are joining forces to promote
membership of the Fire and Blast Information Group (FABIG)
in the USA.
FABIG
is an international, membership-based organization, committed
to improving safety on offshore installations through the
development and sharing of expert knowledge on hydrocarbon
fires and explosions. The organization is managed by The
Steel Construction Institute (SCI) in the UK. It was formed
in 1992, following work carried out by the SCI in the wake
of the Piper Alpha disaster. Members include oil and gas
companies, legislators, certifying authorities, contractors,
consultants, equipment manufacturers and research centers.
Companies
in the USA will benefit from the arrangement in several
ways. They will receive:

A
copy of the Interim Guidance for the Design and Protection
of Topside Structures against Explosion and Blast (IGN),
which was prepared by the SCI.

A
copy of the Technical Notes produced for FABIG members,
which are based on new technical knowledge. These Notes
complement and update the IGN.

Copies
of the quarterly FABIG Newsletter covering latest developments.

USA
companies will be able to attend new quarterly Technical
Meetings to be held in Houston and to receive the Technical
Meeting Reviews.
ABS Consulting
will be the focus for FABIG activities in the USA. It will
organize Technical Meetings in Houston, but the topics
may differ from those addressed in Europe, to reflect the
needs of the industry in the USA. To offer a USA perspective,
ABS Consulting will prepare and/or source articles from
companies with a USA interest. As all FABIG members will
receive all the Technical Meeting Reviews, as well as the
Technical Notes and the Newsletter, this development will
mean that both USA and European members benefit from sharing
knowledge.
