ABS Consulting Writes Chemical Safety Alert for
the EPA
June 2, 2004
(Knoxville, TN) The
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a Chemical
Safety Alert written by ABS Consulting personnel entitled Failure
of Excess
Flow Valves in Hazardous Materials Service . EPA issues
periodic "Alerts" explaining specific hazards that
have become evident through EPA's accident investigation
efforts. Excess flow valves are protective devices intended
to prevent uncontrolled release of hazardous materials from
transport and storage vessels. This Chemical Safety Alert
focuses on the proper use of excess flow valves and an understanding
of their capabilities and limitations. The alert was written
by Walt Frank and Randy Freeman of ABS Consulting's Operational
Risk and Performance Consulting Division.
